Wine

Image

Burgundy is one of the areas in France where quality wine is made. It mainly uses the grapes Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The plots are small and each have their own characteristics, which help determine the taste of the wine. Much attention is paid to the composition of the soil (minerals, limestone or clay soil, etc.) and the climatic conditions (such as placement on the hillside, sunshine hours, wind). The grapes are picked manually.

There are many ways to explore the wine region.

Wine Routes

Image

The "Route des Grands Crus," a car and motorcycle route that takes you past famous wine villages. A nice place to stop along the way is, for example, the village square of Meursault with its cozy terraces and authentic center.

Via the "Véloroute Santenay-Beaune" you will literally cycle through the vineyards. You will see the winemakers at work and pass famous vineyards along the way, where the grapes for the grand-cru and premier-cru wines grow.

Hiking trails are plentiful, of various lengths and heaviness. These are also well marked.

Whichever route you choose along the way you are bound to pass one of many caves. Here you can taste and buy wine. A peek into the cellars is often part of the package.

Wine Festivals

Wine festivals are organized regularly. For example, an open day, where you visit all the winemakers in a village with your glass to taste their wines.
